Cartystown beach is located on Coney Island in Co.Sligo. Coney isalnd can be reached by land at low tide. So this is the interesting part, always make yourself aware of the tides, otherwise you might get stranded on Coney Island for a couple of additional hours.
Generally, it is Ok to cross about 2 to 3 hours before low tide. Once you reach the island, pass the only pub of the island , "Michael Ward" and you will reach a road to the left which has a signpost for the beach.
If you arrived here by car, we would recommend to park the car somewhere around here and walk the road towards the beach.
Cartystown beach is an amazing beach, always quiet due to it's remote location, which also means there are no lifeguards around. The beach made it into the Irish Independent 30 best beaches of Ireland, and it is easy to see why. From the golden sand to the clearest water you can imagine, it is a fantastic location. Only thing, don't forget to head back to the mainland before the tide comes in. Allthough, a few pints in Michael J Wards might make your stay one to remember.
