Due to work commitments, I had to stay in Co.Cavan. The choice was quickly made, I would be staying 2 nights at Farnham Estate in Co.Cavan. I arrived at Farnham estate around 8pm on a winter evening, fog had made the drive to Co.Cavan a difficult one where the roads winding between the many lakes seemed endless. Delighted to have arrived, I turned into the extensive grounds of Farnham Estate, 1300 acres to be exact of landscaped gardens, an 18 hole golf course and extensive walkways allowing you to discover the fabulous gardens of Farnham Estate. After having parked the car, you can call for a shuttle bus which will pick you up at the car park and bring you to the hotel, i opted to walk. The old house is still intact and is part of the hotel, the old entrance into the house is now part of the large glass lobby.
After a quick check-in , i made my way over to the new wing. The standard room was less than standard, the modern interior was welcoming. The warm colour scheme of the room was inviting, on the large bed were slippers and bathrobes, a large workdesk was also available. My room looked out towards the swimming pool and gym, but I would only notice the beauty of the estate the next morning.
The bathroom is ample sized, and both a shower and bath are available for guests. A cool feature is a sliding panel between the bathroom and the bedroom. When opened, it allows you to have a conversation with someone in the bedroom while you are enjoying a soak in the bath.
After a great sleep, it must be said that Farnham Estate is quiet, I opened the curtains to be amazed by the fantastic sunset, the amazing grounds of Fanrham estate and the open air swimming pool . Yes, they have an open air swimming pool which is linked with the indoor swimming pool. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to sample the swimming pool, spa or gym during my stay (hopefully we will test it all during our next stay).
Walking back to reception, I noticed some old pictures on the wall of Farnham Estate and what it looked like in it's days prior to becoming a hotel. That evening, we had a work dinner in the Botanica restaurant. The restaurant is cozy and it's interior is modern. We opted for the set dinner menu which at €45 which turned out to be great value for the quality food which is being served. I went for the goat cheese as starter followed by venison for the main course all finished with a fabulous cheese platter. As it was a work dinner, I didn't take any pictures of the food, but you just have to take my word for it, the food is not only delicious, it is also a visual feast. I enjoyed my stay at Farnham estate, one which I will repeat in the near future. But the next time, I will bring my wife and try out more what the hotel has to offer.
