So what is there not to like about Co. sligo. Amazing scenery, fantastic beaches, brilliant forests, calm lakes, wild rivers,... it is all there to have the perfect outdoor adventure. But sometimes, we head further afield to enjoy some different scenery.

This weekend, myself and my wife decided to venture further afield and head for Pontoon Bridge in Co. Mayo.
The plan was made a while ago, cycle an 80 km and see a different location. With the kids being dropped off at my parents, we set off on the adventure.

At Pontoon Bridge, we set off on a cycle around lough Conn. The weather was clearing up and Nephin was slowly making an appearance out of the clouds. First stop was the titanic memorial park at Lahardaune. While reading some of the plaques, we got a suprise visit of one of the members of the Addergoole Titanic Society who gave us a very interesting tour of the park and a lesson in history.

After admiring the memorial park, we set off towards Crossmolina. When we reached this lovely village, the plan was made to extend the cycle and head towards Killala where  fresh bread and cheese was purchased and a welcome lunch break was had at the quays.

Off we went direction Ballina and then further towards Crossmolina. Prior to reaching Crossmolina, we headed around the lake to finish our 82 km cycle back at Pontoon Bridge.

A well deserved drink was taken at Healys Fishing Lodge.
