Knox - Tapas & Wine

1/13/2018

We had been in Knox in Sligo before, but on previous occasions it was for lunch. It must be said that lunch at Knox is always great, and the same applies for their breakfast.
So on this cold but dry Saturday just after ringing in the New year, we decided to spoil ourselves to our first dinner out in 2018.

So here we were at 6pm without reservation in Knox in O'Connell Street, and looking at the tables which were already occupied, it was a busy evening. We were in luck and got a nice table along the wall. Knox has an urban feel to it, one where you could think you were having a meal in San Fransisco or London.
The tapas menu is varied and is devided in different sections. The first section is "nibbles when you wait" and is in this instance self explanatory.
From this section, we selected artisan bread and dips (€4) which is a plate with different types of bread and 2 dips.

The next section is "from the ground" , from which we selected the potatoes with serano ham and herbs. Next up was the duck which is available under the "from the field" section of the menu.
The duck which was beautiful marinated was served with a fig and asparagus, a delicate plate which tasted as good as it looked (€16).
The next 2 dishes were from the "from the sea" section. From this part, we selected the fish cakes and the prawn pil pil served with crusty bread. (Both around the €10 mark)
Both were delicious.
Oh, and we almost forgot, but how could we, there is also a winelist with a decent selection of  white and red wines and prosecco.
We selected  a bottle of Grenache Syrah "La Guerre des Bouchons" which was good .(€24)
The service at Knox is efficient and correct, the tapas menu is delicious. In our view, some of the dishes on the menu are overpriced.
Tapa dishes around the €13 to €16 mark are in our eyes to expensive, that being said, a visit to Knox is still a must - just to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and the fabulous food.
And as we mentioned before, Knox is also fabulous for breakfast and lunch, and both of the menu's on offer for these sittings are correctly priced.
