Today is Father's Day, and after being woken up by three boisterous boys at 7AM who are excited to give me their Father's Day cards, I am delighted to be woken up early by these three cheerful lads. Looking at their cards, it is obvious what is important in their lives. First of all, the great outdoors seems to be playing a very important role in their lives. The homemade cards feature the great outdoors and travelling in all of their drawings.
So, although kids nowadays love to play their tablets, computers or phones, the one thing that still features mainly in their minds is the great outdoors. And as parents to these three great boys, we have made it into one of our main goals, bringing them up in the great outdoors, from heading out to the beach to playing games in the forests, the great outdoors is important for kids.
Travelling, another goal we have in bringing up these three boys. Letting them discover different foods and cultures, let them listen to different languages, watch the sunsets from Malaga to Norway,... travelling brings them culture. So to all dad's and mum's, enjoy not just that one day in the year called Father's Day or Mother's Day, but enjoy every single day as much as you can.
We are lucky, the place we call home is Co.Sligo, a unique place along the Wild Atlantic Way. Surrounded by the rugged landscape, it is easy to venture outside and discover new things. But it really doesn't matter where you live. Living in the city, bring them to the park, a museum or a historical building. Get them to build a boat and launch it in one of the park's ponds. Wherever you are, take your kids on an adventure.
