On this fabulous morning , we decided to climb Knocknarea in Co.Sligo. Knocknarea is a fabulous mountain nearby the seaside resort of Strandhill. We followed the path up the mountain, views opening up slowly towards Ballysodare Bay and the Ox Mountains.
Along the route, we were greeted by a lovely horse. Higher up again, we discovered the abandoned village where once a thriving community lived in their tatched cottages. Every morning, they were greeted by fabulous scenery, especially on a sunny day as we got to experience on this December morning in Co.Sligo.
Higher up again, we were greeted by a lonely sheep who was busy eating grass rather than enjoying the views towards Benbulben. Benbulben is Ireland's own tabletop mountain, a feature focal point for Co.Sligo.
Almost at the top of Knocknarea, we met Fergus, a local man taking his dog for a morning walk. After a great chat with fergus, we said our goodbyes and carried on.
Co Sligo is the perfect location for walking, and it must be said that there are numerous walks to be discovered (https://www.choosesligo.com/sligo-walks.html) and (sligowalks.ie/) . Walks range from beach to coastal walks, from forest to mountain walks, there is a new walk to be discovered for every day of the week.
