Nook cafe & restaurant

1/30/2017

We had heard a lot of good things about Eithna Reynolds's great little cafe which is situated in Collooney, co Sligo. So on a blustery Thursday in January, we decided to pop in for lunch.
Nook is in Main Street in Collooney, you can't miss it. It is brightly painted blue and the "Nook" sign which is painted in purple stands out . Two small potted evergreens and 2 hanging baskets deliver even more colour to the already colourful cafe.
The first surprise we got was that for a Thursday in January around 12.30, the cafe was packed out.
And on that day, I must have been the only man in the place. The customers were mainly groups of ladies who had decided to have a nice lunch and catch up chatting with their friends. A good few had  newborn babies with them, and it seemed that the soft coloured interior relaxed the newborns present as there wasn't a sound out of them.

The menu is varied, and on the day I opted for the special of the day, toast with lovely glazed ham, cheese,... all served with chuncky homemade chips and coleslaw,... .
Dolores opted for the naanwich , which was naan bread with chicken tikka, coleslaw,....
With a full house, we got served quick enough although the food was all cooked freshly.

And that is what Nook is about, fresh ingredients, on the spot cooked food, fresh local produce,...
I personally don't like the interior of the cafe, but who cares about my personal taste? Nobody,.. I am more a fan of an industrial look - greys, whites, concrete,.... In Nook, it is colourful, different designed plates, funky tablecloths,...but the interior  is very clean and we enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.
But as it is a cafe/restaurant, we all care about the food, and i must say, it was great and we totally enjoyed it. My course was €10, and as you can see from the pictures, the servings are very generous.
To be honest, I always have a great appetite, but on that day i was struggling to finish it.
Dolores enjoyed her meal too, and she even managed to take some of my chips.
And with genuine fresh food & ingredients, we can see why Nook won best newcomer of the year 2017. We will definitely go back and try something else from the menu.
