Let the Adventure Begins
With a love for the great outdoors, we have been lucky to have experienced some excellent adventures over the years. And they don't have to be multiple week long adventures, we love the smaller things in life as well. Heading out with a sleeping bag on a Friday evening, hiking along forest paths or just competing in an adventure race during the weekend is as exciting as heading out on a 3 week adventure. And with more adventures in the planning phase, some will push us out our comfort level, others will bring us to new destinations.
Adventure equipment
For the adventure trips, I tend to keep using the same equipment that has proven itself over and over again. Where some of the equipment (tyres,...) changes, some equipment is just to good to replace. On these adventures where I need to get from point A to B, I can't afford to lose time between the stages because of faulty equipment, so I pick the gear I can trust.
So here is a quick overview of the equipment I use:
a) Bike: Trek checkpoint ALR : A robust gravel bike that allows me to comfortable hit the gravel and tarmac roads. As I always plan my routes taking the quieter backroads, surfaces can be rough (even for the tarmac roads)
b) saddle: Brooks Swift: comfort is key, so my choice is a brooks saddle. The swift is a narrow race saddle
c) Watch: Polar: I have been a fan of Polar for the last 30 years, and over the years have used a good few of their watches. Each of the newer watches provides me with more detail. The latest one I am using is the Polar Vantage V which I have been using since its launch in 2018. I might upgrade to the soon to be launched Polar Grit X Pro 2
d) Bags: Ortlieb: I have been using Ortlieb bags for the last 30 years, and even when cycling through days of torrential downpours, I am guaranteed dry clothes.
e) Glasses: Oakley: I have been a fan for years
f) Shoes: Salomon & Merrell... Where I am a huge fan of barefoot shoes and basically wear these the whole time (Yes, I like to feel the terrain), I move to Salomon Speedcross when the terrain gets really rough and technical.
Although we love these brands, we test new equipment on an ongoing basis as well.
