The dark Hedges, County Antrim

8/5/2018

We passed the dark hedges by accident when we drove back towards Coleraine after having visited Giants Causeway.
The dark hedges is an avenue of beech trees which have grown into each other. The road is now closed for traffic as the trees were being affected by the ever increasing traffic, especially after the trees were featured in Game of Thrones and  the latest Transformers movie.
The last few storms have also damaged some of the trees, so nowadays you are going to see a few trees less along the road.
If you want to take pictures , the best time to visit the avenue is early in the morning or late in the evening when the sun is low on the horizon. We found ourselves visiting the avenue around 2pm, not the best time as it get's busy enough as well.

We parked the car in the car park of the nearby Dark hedges Hotel and walked along the path towards the hedges.
The path is great fun, especially for kids who will love the little leprechaun houses and the tunnel which brought us in less than 5 minutes to the Dark hedges avenue.
