Today, we got to check out the new walk in Ballysodare.  Starting at Woodbrook Heights, follow the small lane leading to St.Fechins graveyard and old church located beside Ballysodare waterfall.
St Fechins old church is covered in ivy, but the Romanesque doorway is still visible.

The country lane ends at the graveyard, but walk a little bit further along the graveyard wall towards the start of the new track.
The track is reached  through a wooden gate from where it goes slowly downhill towards the Ballysodare River. At this point, you can hear the thundering sound of Ballysodare falls which is very popular for it's salmon fishing.
The path follows the Ballysodare river which gradually widens into Ballysodare Bay. From this point onwards it is fully tidal dependant. The Marshlands on either side of the river are the perfect location to observe the many waders looking for their daily meal. The views towards Knocknarea are beautiful, the reeds on the edge of Ballysodare bay move gently in the wind.

After our walk, we decided to check out the Ballysodare falls. Although the river is only 5km in lenght starting at Collooney,  it is one of Ireland's more popular Salmon rivers.
Watching the salmon trying to navigate the falls is spectacular, and on a warm spring/summer evening, it is great to watch the many anglers trying to catch a fresh salmon.
